RockShox SID setup
Most SIDs go out with a number on the leg and nothing else. Put in your weight for RockShox’s own starting pressure, then fix what you feel.
Pump to 82 psi. RockShox says this air spring needs no sag check.
Rebound, spacers and limits
- Compression: Lever on Open to start. Pedal and Lock are for climbs and smooth road.
- Rebound: RockShox doesn’t print a rebound click number in its manual or on the spec sheet. Its recommended starting setting is in the free RockShox TrailHead app (trailhead.rockshox.com, needs a login). Without it, fully open the dial and close it a few clicks at a time until the fork stops pogoing back after a hard push.
- Sag: the chart pressure is the setting. If you measure anyway, expect roughly 12–24 mm (10–20%).
- Volume spacers at 120 mm: ships with 0, max 3.
- E-bikes add 10 psi.

Fix what you feel
Tap what your fork does. Fixes are for your Charger Race Day 2. Change one thing at a time, then ride the same section again.
Harsh over roots and braking bumps
Too much air, or rebound too slow.
- Make sure the lockout lever is on Open. Pedal and Lock is for climbs and smooth road.
- Take out 3–5 psi and ride it again.
- Rebound dial a couple of clicks counter-clockwise if the fork feels like it’s stuck low.
Dives under braking and on steep roll-ins
Not enough air for your weight.
- Add 3–5 psi.
- This fork has no compression dial, so air pressure is your main fix.
Bottoms out hard on drops and big landings
The air spring runs out of support at the end of the travel.
- Add one Bottomless Token. Stay within the maximum for your travel.
- Still bottoming? Add 3–5 psi.
Never uses full travel, even on big hits
Too much air, or too many tokens.
- RockShox says the fork should reach full travel at the right pressure. Take out 3–5 psi.
- If you added tokens, take one out.
Bouncy, or clunks at full extension
Rebound is too fast.
- Turn the rebound dial 1–2 clicks clockwise.
Rides lower and lower through rough sections
Rebound is too slow, so the fork packs down.
- Turn the rebound dial 2 clicks counter-clockwise.

RockShox SID rebound setting
RockShox doesn’t print a rebound click number in its manual or on the spec sheet. Its recommended starting setting is in the free RockShox TrailHead app (trailhead.rockshox.com, needs a login). Without it, fully open the dial and close it a few clicks at a time until the fork stops pogoing back after a hard push. Turn the rebound dial clockwise for slower rebound, counter-clockwise for faster. Counter-clockwise until it stops is fully open. Push the fork down hard and let go. If the wheel pogos back up, rebound is too fast. If the fork stays low and doesn’t come back for the next bump, it’s too slow.
RockShox SID compression settings
| Damper | Start at |
|---|---|
| Charger Race Day 2 | Lever on Open to start. Pedal and Lock are for climbs and smooth road. |
| Charger RL | Lever on Open to start. Lock is for climbs and smooth road. |
| Rush RL | Lever on Open to start. Lock is for climbs and smooth road. |
RockShox SID volume spacers
| Travel | Ships with | Max |
|---|---|---|
| 120 mm | 0 | 3 |
| 110 mm | 1 | 3 |
| 100 mm | 1 | 3 |
These are Bottomless Tokens. They change how hard the fork ramps up at the end of its travel, not its pressure. Add one if you bottom out, remove one if you never reach full travel.
Which RockShox SID damper do I have?
- Charger Race Day 2: A lockout lever with Open and Lock (2-position) or Open, Pedal and Lock (3-position), plus one rebound adjuster. No compression dial.
- Charger RL: Same layout: lockout lever and one rebound adjuster, no compression dial. Plainer internals than Race Day 2.
- Rush RL: Same layout: lockout lever and one rebound adjuster, no compression dial. Found on the base SID.
RockShox’s spec sheets list Charger Race Day 2 on SID Ultimate and, from 2025, Select+. Select has Charger RL and Base has Rush RL. (The 2024 sheet lists Select+ as Charger RL.) All of them have rebound and a lockout lever only.
RockShox SID service interval
RockShox says to clean and check air pressure every ride, do a lower leg service every 50 hours, and a full lower leg, damper and spring service every 200 hours.
Questions
What air pressure should I run in my RockShox SID?
Start from RockShox’s chart for your riding weight with gear. A 170–180 lb rider is in the 160–180 lb row: 76–87 psi. Rows move about 12 psi for every 20 lb, and 150 psi is the maximum. Fill it in steps: half the pressure, squeeze the fork down slowly to a quarter of its travel five times, then full pressure, repeat, and top up once more.
How much sag should a RockShox SID have?
RockShox says DebonAir+ forks like the SID don’t need the sag procedure. Fill to the chart pressure, ride it, and adjust. The fork should reach full travel at the right pressure. For a check, RockShox says 10–20% sag suits shorter-travel bikes, which is 12–24 mm on a 120 mm SID.
How many clicks of rebound on a RockShox SID?
RockShox doesn’t publish a click count. Its starting setting for your weight is in the TrailHead app. Clockwise is slower, counter-clockwise is faster. If the wheel pogos back up after a hard push, close it a couple of clicks. If the fork stays low, open it.
Does this work for my older SID?
Only for 2024-and-newer SIDs (35 mm legs, 100–120 mm, DebonAir+). The SID SL has its own chart, and older SIDs have their own tables in their year’s spec sheet at sram.com/service.
