Marzocchi Bomber 58 setup

Compression, spacers and limits
  • Compression: 4 clicks out from fully closed (clockwise). It has 8 clicks in all, and 8 out is fully open.
  • Rebound: Turn the dial fully clockwise until it stops, then count the clicks back out.
  • Volume spacers at 203 mm: ships with 4, max 7.
  • Max pressure 120 psi.

Fix what you feel

Tap what your fork does. Fixes are for your GRIP. Change one thing at a time, then ride the same section again.

Harsh over roots and braking bumps

Too much air, too much compression, or rebound too slow.

  1. Check sag first. Under 15% means too much air.
  2. Open compression 1 or 2 clicks (counter-clockwise).

Dives under braking and on steep roll-ins

Not enough compression, or too much sag.

  1. Add compression 1 or 2 clicks (clockwise).
  2. Still diving and sag is past 20%? Add 3 to 5 psi.

Bottoms out hard on drops and big landings

The air spring isn’t ramping up enough.

  1. Add one volume spacer.
  2. Stay within Marzocchi’s max of 7 spacers. More can damage the fork.

Never uses full travel, even on big hits

Too many spacers, too much air, or too much compression.

  1. If sag is right, remove one volume spacer.
  2. Open compression 1 or 2 clicks.

Bouncy, or clunks at full extension

Rebound is too fast.

  1. Add rebound 1 or 2 clicks (clockwise).

Rides lower and lower through rough sections

Rebound is too slow, so the fork packs down.

  1. Open rebound 2 clicks (counter-clockwise).

Turn the dial fully clockwise until it stops, then count the clicks back out. Push the fork down hard and let go. If it clunks at full extension, rebound is too fast.

Questions

What air pressure should I run in my Marzocchi Bomber 58?

Start from Marzocchi’s chart for your riding weight with gear. A 170–180 lb rider starts at 69 psi. Then set sag to 15–20%. Never go over 120 psi.

How much sag should a Bomber 58 have?

15–20% of travel: 30–41 mm on the 203 mm fork. Measure with the compression dial fully open (counter-clockwise), dressed to ride, with your weight spread across saddle, bars and pedals.

How many clicks of rebound on a Bomber 58?

It depends on your weight. From fully closed, a 170–180 lb rider starts at 8 clicks out. Lighter riders run more clicks out: 13 at 120–130 lb, down to 1 at 240–250 lb. Compression starts 4 clicks out.

Does this work for my older Bomber 58?

For the air 58 from 2017 on, yes, Marzocchi’s numbers are the same in its older and newer guides. Anything older than that needs the guide for its own year on marzocchi.com.
