Fix what you feel

Tap what your fork does. Fixes are for your GRIP SL. Change one thing at a time, then ride the same section again.

Harsh over roots and braking bumps

Too much air, the lever isn’t Open, or rebound is too slow.

  1. Check sag first. Under 15% means too much air.
  2. Make sure the lever is fully Open (on a Rhythm, turned all the way counter-clockwise).
  3. Only harsh on back-to-back hits? Open rebound 1 click (counter-clockwise).

Dives under braking and on steep roll-ins

Not enough compression support, or too much sag.

  1. Move the lever one step toward Medium. On a Rhythm sweep lever, turn it a little toward Firm.
  2. Still diving and sag is past 20%? Add 2–3 psi.

Bottoms out hard on drops and big landings

The air spring isn’t ramping up enough.

  1. Add one volume spacer. These forks have no separate dial for big hits.
  2. Stay within Fox’s max spacer count for your travel.

Never uses full travel, even on big hits

Too many spacers, too much air, or the lever isn’t Open.

  1. Make sure the lever is fully Open.
  2. If sag is right, remove one volume spacer (a Step-Cast ships with 1, a Rhythm with none).
  3. No spacer to remove? Drop 2–3 psi, but keep sag at 20% or less.

Bouncy, or clunks at full extension

Rebound is too fast.

  1. Add rebound 1–2 clicks (clockwise).

Rides lower and lower through rough sections

Rebound is too slow, so the fork packs down.

  1. Open rebound 2 clicks (counter-clockwise).

Full Fox 32 reference

For the 2025-and-newer 32 Step-Cast (100 mm, GRIP SL or GRIP) and the 32 Rhythm (80–120 mm, OEM bikes). Fox’s 2025, 2026 and 2027 manuals give the same pressure, rebound and 100 mm spacer numbers. Not for the 32 Taper-Cast gravel fork, which has its own chart, and not for older 32s: use the manual for your year on tech.ridefox.com.

Turn the dial fully clockwise until it stops, then count the clicks back out. Push the fork down hard and let go. If it clunks at full extension, rebound is too fast.

Spacers change how hard the fork ramps up at the end of its travel, not its sag. Add one if you bottom out too easily, remove one if you never get near full travel.

Which Fox 32 damper do I have?

  • GRIP SL: One 3-position lever on top of the right leg (the side without the air valve) and one rebound dial at the bottom. A remote can replace the lever.
  • GRIP: One lever on top of the right leg and one rebound dial at the bottom. On a Rhythm the lever sweeps from Open to Firm with no Medium click.

GRIP SL comes on the Step-Cast Factory, GRIP on the Step-Cast Performance and on the Rhythm, which is sold only on complete bikes.

Fox 32 service interval

Fox recommends a full service every 125 hours of riding or once a year, whichever comes first.

Questions

What air pressure should I run in my Fox 32?

Start from Fox’s chart for your riding weight with gear. A 170–180 lb rider starts at 90 psi on a 32 Step-Cast or Rhythm. Then set sag to 15–20%. Never go over 140 psi.

How much sag should a Fox 32 have?

15–20% of travel: 15–20 mm on a 100 mm Step-Cast. Measure with the lever fully Open, dressed to ride, with your weight spread across saddle, bars and pedals.

How many clicks of rebound on a Fox 32?

From fully closed, a 170–180 lb rider starts at 8 clicks out on both GRIP and GRIP SL. Lighter riders run more clicks out, heavier riders fewer.

Does this work for my older Fox 32?

Only for the 2025-and-newer Step-Cast and Rhythm. The Taper-Cast gravel fork and older 32s have their own charts in their own year’s manual on tech.ridefox.com.
